Free State Kitchen opens on Maryland Street
I haven’t actually been to FREE STATE KITCHEN – a new restaurant on Maryland Street, yet, but it looks really promising. We got a flyer through our door today offering 20% off on the first visit. And since I wanted to go for a walk tonight anyway, I decided to go there and take some pictures. It’s located just off Hope Street, close to John Moores on Maryland Street in what looks like an old Georgian mews house. I’m now planning on going there for my pre-birthday dinner on Wednesday night.
The flyer promises
[quote_left] Burgers / Deli Sandwiches / Brunch & Coffee / Homemade Desserts / Hot Dogs / Daily Specials / Seafood / Steaks / Cocktails / Wine + Craft Beers. A contemporary twist on classic American dishes and a secret garden. [/quote_left]
Interesting & Yummy – with a capital Y. If you sign up for their mailing list, you can get 20% off on your first visit, too.

Harvest 1418
Harvest 1418 – no, this isn’t some historical event. It’s a 1980s tableware set by Marks & Spencer. All plates, cups and saucers feature beautiful berry and leaf designs on a cream-coloured background. And I was lucky enough to get hold of 12 pieces (2 large plates, 2 cups, 4 small plates and 4 bowls). I got them from The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation in Mossley Hill, one of my favourite second-hand shops. Imagine my face when the shop assistant told me that it was on sale for only £6 (ca. $9). Can’t argue with that. What a bargain. PS. Try eBay if you like this set.

Different Shades of Grey Furniture
Although July is still far off, I’m already thinking about furniture for my new apartment. I love the colour grey and its hundreds and thousands of different shades. These three images recently inspired me. I hope to find alternatives for them here in the UK but like I said, July is still a bit off. So I should be able to source some lovely pieces.
PS. Yes, I’ll be moving into a new place this summer. I don’t know where and when yet but I’ll start flat hunting after my next holiday in mid-May. Exciting times.

In Other Words | Liverpool Literary Festival 2013
The Liverpool Literary Festival – In Other Words is back. The main focus of the festival is on the reopening of our newly refurbished, much-loved City Library. After hanging in there for almost three years, we’ll finally be able to get back into one of my favourite places in Liverpool. Whether its borrowing DVDs, yellowed books or slightly out of date magazines – I just love this place.
And the festival celebrates this occasion, plus there’ll be readings, book swaps, poetry competitions and other events. Over 350 in total. Visit itsliverpool.com for more information.
“In Other Words” – Liverpool Literary Festival, 23rd April until 19th May 2013, various locations.
